Gas Cylinder Technologies was established in 1987 by a father & son partnership, with nearly fifty years of combined cylinder experience utilized to start this endeavour.

Our company traces its roots to General Fire Extinguisher Corporation US, FLAG Fire Equipment Ltd., and Steel Cylinder Manufacturing Ltd., now a division of Worthington Cylinder.

Gas Cylinder specializes in the manufacturing of small, high pressure compressed gas bottles. Industries served include the medical, specialty gas, fire suppression, recreation, military training, aerospace, agriculture, beverage and manufacturing industries.

We specialize in the manufacturing of complex design cylinders that require great precision and careful detail throughout the process.

Past Accomplishments

OLYMPIC TORCH PROGRAM

Gas Cylinder Technologies was awarded the cylinder contract for the U.S.A. Olympic Games in 1996, when we produced 17,300 cylinders to power the Olympic Torch Relay.

We have also completed another successful Olympic Torch program since then, under even higher quality and performance standards.

A brief history of Gas Cylinder Technologies Inc. (GCT America Inc.)

Gas Cylinder Technologies was established in 1987 by a father-son partnership between Timo and Tom Siimes. Fifty years of combined cylinder experience was utilized to start this endeavour.

Timo’s experience goes back to the General Fire Extinguishing Company as chief engineer and plant manager, founder/partner of Flag Fire Equipment Ltd. (now part of Tyco group), and founder/partner of Steel Cylinder Manufacturing Ltd. (future plant of Worthington Cylinder-Canada). Tom’s experience is all from Steel Cylinder Manufacturing Ltd.

Gas Cylinder specializes in the manufacturing of small high pressure compressed gas bottles. Industries served are the medical, specialty gas, fire suppression, recreation, military, aerospace, agriculture, beverage, and manufacturing.

In late 1995 Gas Cylinder Technologies received an urgent call from American Meter Company in Erie, Pennsylvania. American Meter had been awarded the contract to produce all the Olympic Torch cylinders for the 100th anniversary games in Atlanta 1996. With only one initial call and fax drawing Gas Cylinder assured American Meter that we could produce the custom propane/propylene cylinder required and meet all DOT requirements. Working prototypes were delivered in six weeks. Gas Cylinder was awarded the cylinder contract and produced 17,300 cylinders on time for the Olympic Games. Since this Olympic games Gas Cylinder has also completed another 15,000 of a second-generation torch cylinder for another countries Olympic Torch relay.

Gas Cylinder moved to its present location in Lakeshore, Ontario. In 1998, then again in 2000, we expanded our plant to meet customer requirements. We look forward to serving our customers in 2023 onward at our new facility in Litchfield, Michigan, USA under the same direction and ownership, now named GCT America Inc, and doing business as Gas Cylinder Technologies.
